About Benjamin Cottrell

Art has always been my escape. My photography has helped me navigate my overactive imagination and create work that allows my creativity to shine.

I graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and with a minor emphasis in Photography.

I have been taking photographs since 2010. I first began shooting images of flowers in the backyard of my childhood home. Since then, I have gained experience shooting weddings, senior and family portraits, engagement, lifestyle, and commercial photography. Above all, fine art photography is my passion.

My work has been shown in the UMKC Student Art Exhibition in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 and I have had pieces published in the Photographer’s Forum magazine and the Dossier Student Art Magazine at UMKC.

I remain motivated by an innate desire to create and to show others the world through my eyes. I am inspired by works of surrealism and the avant-garde because they provide me with the same escape from everyday life that I aspire to give others.
